The 2011 RGS Wine Club wines
Overview
The first RGS bottling happened in 1986 so that makes 2011 our 25th birthday. A lot has changed in the Australian wine industry over that time. We started only a short time after the last vine pull in the early 80s and then we experienced the crash through multi billion-dollar expansion involving overseas markets and crazy corporate takeovers and consolidations.
Now the industry is faced with challenges of oversupply and changing seasonal conditions. By any measure it has been a roller coaster ride. Who the hell in their right mind would take a ticket on this crazy conveyance.

2007 RGS Cross Cut Cabernet Sauvignon
Because of the drought, the berries were smaller and delivered more concentrated flavours and overall it was another good Cabernet year in Langhorne Creek. It’s herbaceous and good for up to seven years at 14.0% alc/vol. It’s better than the 2006 but not as outstanding as the 2002 and 2005 vintages. You’ll really enjoy the mint and herbs on the nose and the length of the wine on the palate. It continues the good run Cabernet is enjoying in the Creek.

2007 RGS Grower Shiraz
The harvest was down by about 40%. It’s spicy and silky smooth, dark and solid with plenty of pepper and palate weight. A good Aussie Shiraz from a good Shiraz vintage - it also weighs in at 14.0% alc/vol. The wine will continue to improve under good cellaring conditions until 2014 – not that most of you will keep it long enough to ever find that out!

2005 RGS Adze Malbec
This variety seems to produce better wines in even numbered years. We didn’t make any in 2003 but the 2005 is a good fruit driven, solid, flavorsome wine with good deep colour. It’s bigger than the 2004 vintage and the concentration of flavour comes from a 2 tonnes / acre vintage. Great for us – not so good for the grower! Why don’t you try it slightly chilled sometime? It’s weighs in at 14% alcohol and the 2005 Adze Malbec is drinking well now.
