The 2007 RGS wines
Overview
The drought is ongoing and everyone at the bottom of the Murray is in real strife. However the 2007 RGS reds are on wood and developing beautifully at the moment. They will be bottled at Bleasdale in early February in time for the distribution day on Sunday February 17th.
This year we’ve selected the 2007 Shiraz and Cabernet, the outstanding 2006 vintage Malbec and a 2007 Verdelho. All the wines are produced from fruit grown at Langhorne Creek and made by the Bleasdale wine making team. They had gold medal success at the 2007 Adelaide Wine Show with their 2007 Verdelho and the 2004 Malbec.
The three reds sit comfortably in the $15.00 - $20.00 quality range and we are getting them for less than $8.00 a bottle. The 2007 Verdelhlo is a more serious white than in previous years and comes with a solid pedigree.
The bottom line is that the much talked about ‘wine lake’ in Australia, like the Murray, has dried up. But don’t panic just yet - the RGS wines are secure for next year.

2007 Cross Cut Cabernet Sauvignon
Because of the drought, the berries were smaller and delivered more concentrated flavours and overall it was another good Cabernet year in Langhorne Creek. It’s herbaceous and good for up to seven years at 14.0% alc/vol. It’s better than the 2006 but not as outstanding as the 2002 and 2005 vintages. You’ll really enjoy the mint and herbs on the nose and the length of the wine on the palate. It continues the good run Cabernet is enjoying in the Creek.

2007 Grower Shiraz
The harvest was down by about 40%. It’s spicy and silky smooth, dark and solid with plenty of pepper and palate weight. A good Aussie Shiraz from a good Shiraz vintage - it also weighs in at 14.0% alc/vol. The wine will continue to improve under good cellaring conditions until 2014 – not that most of you will keep it long enough to ever find that out!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2006 Adze Malbec
The 2006 is a strongly fruit driven, solid, flavorsome wine with good deep colour. It’s bigger than the gold medal winning 2004 vintage Bleasdale cousin and the concentration of flavour comes from a 2 tonne / acre vintage. Great for us – not so good for the grower! It’s weighs in at 14% alcohol and it will drink well now to 2016 and beyond. 2006 was an outstanding Malbec year.

2008 Verdelho (NEW RELEASE)
Another serious drop from the Bleasdale stable. If you enjoyed the 2007, you’ll like this one as well. If you’re an ABC drinker (Anything But Chardonnay), you’ll enjoy the tropical fruit salad with excellent depth of peach, melon and ripe pineapple flavours, combined with balanced acidity. Drink it now, drink it chilled and drink it often we say. It’s at 14.0% and a great summer drop.
